– Surreal hike through natural piece of art
Hiking through the iconic volcanic landscape of Landmannalaugar on Iceland is a walk like no other. In this geothermal wilderness in the southern highlands, volcanic activity has created a landscape out of this world – pocked with hot springs, lava fields, steaming pools, smoking soil and most striking of all; mindblowing multicoloured rhyolite mountains.
Reaching the peak of Brennisteinalda, one of the most insane scenes unfolds in front of my eyes, like an endless painting, of intense colours, shapes and patterns. A natural piece of art, created by mother nature during one of her finest hours. Surreal and breathtaking.
With earth literally boiling and smoldering of underground activity, you’re always reminded a sudden eruption is just around the corner, which adds an extra dimension to the adventure.
